running is my lexipro.

i kid.  i don't really need to take lexipro.  today most days.

but you know they say that running and exercise makes you feel better.  and it's so true.  you just always feel better.  so, duh, why don't we do it more?

well, i am.  i've been back to my regular routine of running.  a daily check yourself and clear your head run.

when i got home from work, i let myself read something on online that i knew would upset me.  the headache was right on cue because i felt the blood pressure rising.  so instead of wallowing, i put on my tennies and got in the car.  no, i'm not a marathoner or even a half-marathoner.  4 miles is good for me ...and my smile.  cause when i got back in my car, i felt amazing.

then, i logged onto pinterest and saw this.  how perfect :)

d.i.y day.

so this is what i did yesterday.

a.  a little gift for my friend, katie, whose first anniversary is today.  the colors are totally her.  but my oh my was the 'b' tricky to wrap.  too many nooks and crannies.  and ps, i bought a glue gun yesterday.  i'm kind of amazed that i have not owned one up to this point.

b.  in keeping with the rosette theme, i put this together.  i went back and forth about which type of wreath to make.  this one, or a burlap one.  so i bought the burlap too and i'm just going to do both....eventually.

and hey...why reinvent the wheel and put together a rosette tutorial when i can just share the one i used [but modified].  instead of drawing a spiral, i cut the felt into circles and then used scissors to cut a spiral.

am i the only one [deep thoughts edition].

am i the only one who...feels nostalgic in the fall...the crisp air and the smell of burning wood remind me of high school.  the homecoming bonfire, actually.  the fun of all the festivities and your only worry was what you would wear to homecoming.  fall also brings me back to the beginning of jake and me.  we were official in october.  we got engaged in october.  we got married in october.  love it.  love everything about it.

am i the only one who...wonders how you ended up here.  where you are.  do you ever replay life's chain of events, thinking that if one fork would have gone the other way, things might be different?  not good different.  or bad different.  just different.  like if your parents' decisions or your own decisions would have wiggled slightly in another direction, where would you be in the exact moment that you're in?  ...in your house, with your husband, and your dog...in suburban missouri.

am i the only one who...can make music become a soundtrack to my life.  i make ipod playlists based on my mood.  which can tend to last a week or so.  i love lyrics.  lyrics make a song.  and i can twist a story that is probably about a breakup or something and make it about my life.  just me?  i'm currently obsessing over we owned the night by lady antebellum.

am i the only one who...is perfectly content [probably most content] staying in and being a recluse on a saturday night.  crafting the latest pinterest pin.  with the notebook and then he's just not that into you and then bridesmaids playing in the background.  [if you're wondering if jake was here for this estrogen fest, the answer is no.  he's in the country getting it ready for hunting season].

am i the only one who...can eventually find beauty in a breakdown.  i never really knew how to explain this until i saw this post on the wiegands, originally by leslie from top of the page.  and it sort of fit exactly how i feel at times.  it was kind of crazy.  i was like, "did i write that?" [note: this is not me taking credit]

"If you haven't already gathered, or happen to be reading this blog for the first time in your life, I am a melancholy girl through and through. I find beauty in not only the beautiful things in life, but the bittersweet and sad as well. To me, there is something poignantly lovely about the human experience from its splendor to its grief. God created all our emotions, not just the happy ones, and for His good purposes. That's why a good cry can feel so good. And hitting our limits forces us to look outside ourselves for a Savior. It is in the plea, when we're at our end, that we can find that which is truly life-giving. Personally, my moments of deepest grief, deepest pain, have resulted in the most beautiful seasons in my heart. I've met God more intimately in those moments than in all the other pleasant ones combined. What isn't completely lovely about that?"

ps.  i found this gem at the new tj maxx.  i had to have it.  today, i lit it up.  it just sits on a counter.  that's not a wall.  neat, right?

h is for hudson

my sister.in.law, tara, is pregnant with her first little turkey...
due thanksgiving day!

my mother.in.law, tara's aunt, marissa (from paige's paradise), our sister.in.law, denise, and i threw her a shower at my house.

we didn't exactly have a theme, but it kind of ended up being...
h is for hudson.

the color scheme was taken from the nursery.
invites by my other s.i.l., sarah.  cute, right?
this greeted our guests.  paper mache 'h' from joann's, diy paint job.
and how cute is he? (ps, marge, this was your balloon)
diy banner.
card stock + paint + ribbon
tissue balls [in nursery colors...too cute, huh?]
little 'h' onesie cookies.
made by "the cookie lady", sue.  if you live in the area, i recommend! only $5/doz.
diaper cake by my step.mom, beth.
diaper cake topper.
a last minute centerpiece.
we sprinkled some baby photos of tara and adam around.
bring a book in lieu of a card to start baby's book collection.
super fun sixlets.
me, s.i.l. denise, marissa (tara's bff), tara and m.i.l.
she's such a sweet person.  love you, tara...
if you've read my short story, then you know just how close in due dates tara and i were.  i can't help but get frowny when i think about sitting in our kitchen and the amount of excitement in the air when we told tara and adam we were expecting too.  and how happy it made me to know we'd have too little cousins almost exactly the same age...who would, no doubt, be close.  that we'd have each other to go through every up, down and around of our pregnancies.
and in those moments, i pray for patience and dwell in hope that god's got a plan
even better than the first one.
undoubtedly, our family will have a lot to be thankful for this thanksgiving.
{ jake and i are so excited to meet our first nephew.}

not all pain is bad pain.

while attending my own pitty party, it appears that i have neglected my bod.  things just aren't fitting like they did last fall/winter.  and i can't remember the last time i felt some good ol' fashioned quad and hammy pain; which is odd because i enjoy running.

so, in your typical start on monday fashion, i switched up the scenery and ran my route that i used to take when i lived with my parents.

i parked my car and just ran.  and ran.
5,222 steps.

my.  legs.  feel.  like.  jello.
but i love it.

maybe i should have taken it easy this time around, but i just couldn't stop.

it was one of those good clear-your-head-listen-to-good-music runs.

not all pain is bad pain.

and just one more thing...

i eat dark dove chocolates for my little treat after lunch.
this was my "note" the day after my little let down.
between the charting and the vitamins...and the prometrium and the herbs and the just.right.timing and the lifestyle changes...and the predictor kits and the do this don't do that...
maybe it's time to just play by my heart.

4 years young.

this little cutie turned four on friday.
i called her on my way to work to sing "happy bday".
and it made my day.
i love this stinker so much.
i can only imagine what loving my own will feel like.
until then, i will dote on her.
my little emma bean.
the smartest four.year.old i know.
she's hilarious.
she's shy.
she watches her soccer team instead of playing.
she speaks in analogies.
her speech development is perfection.
she's taller than me, already.
and she looks like her aunt :)
riding the train to nyc to visit american girl.
happy 4th birthday, emma.
