from 'why me' to 'not just me'.

i've said it before, and i will say it again...blogging has been an amazing outlet for me.

not only am i able to vent, express, scream, cry, rejoice, brag and decompress about my day to day, but i have also connected with some amazing bloggers too.  bonus.

a blogger contacted me today and said they came across my blog via google search for prometrium.  she had nice things to say about making.a.menz and then i visited her blog.  and i was hooked.  i felt like i could have written her posts.  and i felt just like she did [a little stuck].  and then, after reading on...i felt normal.  [ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh]

because these other bloggers, who have had difficulty trying to conceive...or who have suffered a miscarriage...or the loss of a child...or people who have shared successes and roadblocks, have been
e x t r a o r d i n a r i l y helpful for my soul.

'why me' is really...it's not just me.  i'm not alone.  even strangers know what i'm going through.  and that feels like such a relief.

awkward and awesome thursday.

leaping on the daybook bandwagon.  here's my version of sydney's awkward and awesome thursday.

|awkward|
these three quotes from kids at work today: 1.  "thank god you got me out of there" as i was picking up a kid from class. 2. "when i grow up i'm going to buy my friend beer" and 3. "i can make a grown man cry".

too much sun + stress + more stress = fever blister.  awkward.  it's like the talking stain...only on my face.

pretending not to be home when a strange young man knocked on my door [i think he was selling lawn services].  i literally crawled to avoid him.  i don't deal well with solicitors.

saying "hi" to a coworker who didn't say hi back.  i'm going to assume she doesn't like didn't hear me.

talking myself out of buying a dress at target.  aloud.

the only time i can pull the librarian's son out of class for speech...is during reading.  oops.

|awesome|
i could actually file this under awkward and awesome.  awkward that i used my school's fax machine to fax my waking temp chart to my doctor this morning.  awesome that she thinks i ovulated based on my temps.  i guess she cracked the code.  not awesome that it was while jake was out of town.  wah wah.

tomorrow is friday and that means jake comes back and we have a very light weekend.  hallelujah.

sunday is my twenty-seventh birthday.

i finally got to walk my doggy tonight.

the versatile blogger

i can't explain how great blogging has been for me.  for a few years, i always said that i would like to start a blog but it's one of those things i just never got around to doing.  i had always followed young.house.love and would click here and there to some other blogs, but that was pretty much it.  then, during a rough patch, a friend suggested that i journal... and i thought "maybe now is a good time to start that blog".  so i did.

it's fun to make connections with people you wouldn't necessarily correspond with in life.  it's nice to hear validating remarks.  it's therapeutic to type out your thoughts.  it's yet another "social media-ish" thing to pass the time.  you start on one blog and then you click and click and click onto the next.  then, before you know it, you've laughed, cried, connected and pondered all in one sitting...love it.

so, abbey at life treasured...my friend who is awaiting identical triplets...nominated me for the versatile blogger award.

yay...fun!  thank you, abbey!

 here are the rules:
  • thank the award-giver and provide a link back to their blog
  • tell your readers seven things about yourself
  • give the award to up to 15 recently discovered bloggers
  • contact those bloggers to tell them the exciting news

seven fun [or maybe random] facts:

1.  i was born in san bernardino, california.  my dad was in the air force and was stationed at norton air force base.  a few years later we moved to marquette, michigan.  wayyyyy up there in the upper peninsula, yah.  so much snow.  so much.  we lived there until i was six...when we moved to missouri.

2.  i dated a boy from middle school to junior year of college, until i met jake, who opened up my eyes.  i thought i had life all planned out ...and then it got way better.

3.  the first time i saw jake, was when his fraternity made him [and his pledge brothers] serenade our sorority.  his whole pledge class sang "milkshake" by kelis.  and jake...well, he did a little jig.dance all by himself as my sorority sisters and i lined the steps in the foyer.  he had a mop for hair and two left feet and it was too cute.  from then on...his nickname was milkshake.  and we made jake reenact it at our reception.

3.  in highschool, i was cheerleading captain and homecoming queen.  just about as stereotypical as it gets.
please note the sweet socks.

4.  when i get stressed or anxious my blood pressure rises to that of a 57 year old obese man.  i turn blotchy red and get a head ache.  believe it or not, deep breathing helps.

5.  when we were little, my mom used to give my brother, sister and me back scratches every night.  sucks for jake because i still love them.  i'd rather have a back scratch than a massage, and bless his heart, jake gives me one anytime i ask.

6.  i've never broken a bone or gotten stitches.  i play life pretty safe.  knock. on. wood.

7.  as a child, i had the craziest hair with approximately 17 cowlicks [that, today, look like bald spots if styled the wrong way].  my parents tried everything to tame it.
not even the most talented of hair dressers could cut my bangs straight.  my cowlicks ate their scissors.
and now it's my turn.  i am nominating the ladies below for the versatile blogger award.

happy.

when you follow way too many blogs, you come across lots of posts.  and this one made me want to copy.  besides, these days...i'm trying to focus on positives.  daily.

from etsy
things that are making me happy:

-the fact that i get to see this little stinker on thursday.
gardening gloves, shoes on wrong feet, tongue out.  love her.
-not only do i get to see that face, but i also get to see two cousins, two aunts, my grandma, my sister and my brother.in.law all at once.  they're coming in from california, michigan, florida and new york!

-jake working in a new division, starting monday.  a move that is the first step towards a nice promotion.  it does mean a week out of town soon though.  yikes! [but we're being positive, right?]

-school starting.  believe it or not.  i miss my kids and i'm kind of looking forward to having my routine again.  [this might not last].

-bachelor pad starting tomorrow.
sad.  but.  true.

-my fur baby is back to normal.  and she always makes me happy.

making.a.menz in the making

actually anxious as i type.  but that's me, anxious.

i've been interested in blogging for a while, but never really found the time or the purpose.  with this summer off, i've had a lot of time to dwell on think about my latest life happenings.  a dear friend suggested that i journal.  i 1) couldn't bring myself to spend $14.50 on a journal [which had to be cute, obviously] and 2) barely have the drive to sit down and read so i concluded that writing in a journal wouldn't be feasible.  idle hands, for me, are not the devil's playground [the term "devil's playground" is relative].  idle hands, for me, leave me alone with my thoughts.  and my thoughts can get the best of me.  so, there i was, thinking in the shower...and it hit me!  i was just ready to do it.  inspired by stranger's blog, a friend's blessings the strength of an acquaintance and a little young.house.love [and that's just to name a few]...i just decided to do it.  so here goes nothing.

please take some time to read how i came up with the blog's name and a little bit about me [and jake].
